FLY FISHING HOLIDAYS
The Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, is the perfect place for a
fly fishing holiday, with every
ingredient to make your stay a memorable one. As you will see on other pages of
the "Yorkshire Dales Fly Fishing" website there are many opportunities for fly
fishing, whether you are looking for trout fishing, grayling fishing, river fly
fishing, stillwater fly fishing, or a fly fishing course with tuition and
accommodation.
Fly fishing holidays can be a single night, a weekend break, short break,
stag weekend, a week or more – you decide.
The itinerary of your fly fishing holiday will be arranged to meet your requirements, whether that be
river trout fishing, grayling fishing, stillwater fly fishing or fly fishing
from a boat. Your fly fishing holiday will be tailor made to suit you and will be varied and
interesting, fishing a different location each day. Just let me know your
requirements and I will do the rest. One day might be trout fishing on the River
Wharfe, at say Bolton Abbey, next day fly fishing for grayling on the River Ure
or River Nidd or fly fishing from a drifting boat for wild brown trout or rainbow
trout. You may want to get away from it all and have some challenging fly
fishing on a small stream (known locally as a beck). You will get all the
information you need from the other pages on this site and hopefully, if I have
written this site well, you will get a feel of what fly fishing in the Yorkshire
Dales is all about and of the passion that I have for the Yorkshire Dales and the
tremendous fly fishing resource we have here.
The Yorkshire Dales are near
Leeds/Bradford
Airport, Manchester Airport and many other airports in the north of England, from where you could be met and transported to the accommodation of
your choice. Or you might want to travel to the Yorkshire Dales by train.
Skipton is the nearest railway station and Leeds and York are not
far; transport can be arranged from all these places.
If you want transport from somewhere else please
contact me to
discuss your requirements. Your fly fishing holiday can include all transport
from your arrival point in North Yorkshire, throughout your stay and return to
your departure point. Just let me know what you require. If you are are driving
here I will supply you with full directions to your accommodation and meet you
there to go fly fishing each day.
There is a large selection of accommodation to suit all pockets, including
hotels, guest houses, pubs, self catering cottages, etc. I have selected
cottages, hotels and inns from all the others in the Yorkshire Dales. They have
been chosen
because they are fishing friendly, close to great fly fishing and situated in
beautiful Yorkshire Dales villages surrounded by lovely countryside. Please see
below for more details. The
hotels
and inns serve good food and have well
stocked bars. The cottages are within casting distance of a pub or restaurant
and close to village amenities. Decide where you would like to stay, when and
for how long and I will do the rest. In the unlikely event that these are not
suitable for your needs there are many other places I can recommend.
So there you have it. A fully inclusive fly fishing
holiday, which can include transport, accommodation and a varied, professionally
guided, fly fishing break in the Yorkshire Dales.
AUTUMN AND WINTER GRAYLING BREAKS
Autumn
and winter in the Yorkshire Dales is grayling time. Join me on a winter or
autumn grayling fishing break for 1, 2 or 3 nights staying in a traditional
Yorkshire Dales pub and fishing a different river each day.
I
will guide for you each day on the finest grayling rivers in Yorkshire, at
this wonderful time of the year. In autumn we use dry flies, nymphs,
spiders and Czech Nymphs to seduce the grayling, but as we move
through the winter our flies need to be nearer the bottom of the stream to
entice the grayling. We then almost exclusively fish with heavily weighted
nymphs and we need to read the water to find the "Lady of the Stream". This
is still rewarding fishing though, and double figure numbers of grayling can
be expected. At the end of a successful day's fishing, as the nights draw in,
relax in front of a real fire in your chosen Yorkshire Dales pub/hotel with a pint
of Yorkshire ale or a glass of fine wine and a freshly cooked meal.
ACCOMMODATION
All the accommodation I offer has been picked by me for its location, reputation, links to fly
fishing and overall suitability for anglers. All have been inspected by me
and meet my own high standards. Please contact me regarding any questions you may have,
or to make a booking.

Accommodation in Wensleydale
Swinton
Park - Masham, in Wensleydale, is an exclusive 30 bedroom luxury castle
hotel. Swinton Park has been awarded 4 Red Stars (Inspector's Choice) and 3
Rosettes by the AA, for excellent facilities, high levels of service and
quality of cuisine. Swinton Park is one of the highest rated hotels in
Yorkshire and Cumbria. It has it's own stretch of River Ure, just downstream
of Masham, on which I have permission to guide residents. This is a good
stretch of River Ure, with good stocks of trout and grayling. There are a
few stillwaters close to the hotel which provide good flyfishing.

The
Cover Bridge Inn - is a historic 16th century inn on the banks of the
River Cover and is run by Nick & Anne Harrington. The Cover Bridge Inn is
situated alongside the River Cover, a few hundred yards upstream from the
confluence with the River Ure. The pub serves a tempting range of wholesome
meals and snacks, and the bar has changed little over the years, with heavy
open beams, wooden settles and a roaring log fires. This is the place to
enjoy well kept draught ales.
