Bainbridge - is situated in Upper Wensleydale on the River Ure. It has good fly fishing
for brown trout and grayling run by Wensleydale Angling Association, but
as this is near the headwaters of the Ure it is best fished after
rainfall. The scenery here as good as it gets; with broad open meadows,
stone barns dotted around the fields and rugged hills stretching as far
as the eye can see. A map
is issued with your permit which also includes fishing on the smallest
river in England, the River Bain. What more could you ask for?

Hawes - is
the next village upstream from Bainbridge in Upper Wensleydale and also
has good fly fishing on the River Ure and its tributaries. I have never fished
these tributaries, but have heard reports that although very difficult to
fish, they do have good trout fishing with some large fish. The fishing is
controlled by Hawes and High Abbotside Angling Association who have 15
miles of trout and grayling fishing.

Aysgarth - Bradford City AA
have some good water on this part of the River Ure
with 2 particularly good stretches at Worton Bridge and Aysgarth. There
are no day tickets, but a yearbook is only £30 plus £10 joining fee. Worth
considering if you will be fishing for more than a day and they also have
some other good fly fishing on the River Wharfe and River Aire. For a

RIVER NIDD DAY TICKET FISHING
Nidderdale Angling Club - have trout fishing and grayling fishing on around 7 miles of
the River Nidd. For more information I would advise you to look at the
Nidderdale Angling Club website. They allow various methods of fishing,
which is a shame as they do have some excellent fly fishing water. Please
note that they do not issue day tickets for grayling fishing after 30th
September when the Brown trout season ends. After this date it is open to
members and their guests only.

RIVER RIBBLE DAY TICKET FISHING
Settle - is the main place for day tickets on the River Ribble. The fishing
is administered by Settle Anglers Association. A day ticket gives you access to about 7½ miles of River Ribble around the town and into some lovely
open countryside. Grayling fishing is best through the town and downstream and trout fishing upstream
of Settle.

RIVER SWALE DAY TICKET FISHING
Catterick - has some very good fly fishing for brown trout and grayling.
This area is not quite so scenic as further upstream but the fishing is good.
Most of this stretch is tree lined anyway so long distance views are not
possible. Controlled by Leeds & District ASA
Day tickets:- from the 'National Lottery' newsagent in Catterick village. To get to the river from here go down Swale Lane, which is almost
opposite the shop. Drive through the gate and park on the side of the river. The fishing is from
here upstream for about 2 miles.

Richmond - is further upstream than Catterick and the scenery improves
markedly in this area. Again there is good fly fishing for brown trout and
grayling. The fishing is controlled by Richmond and District Angling Society who have 14 miles of fishing between Marske and Great Langton.

RIVER SKIRFARE DAY TICKET FISHING
Arncliffe - is where you need to head for day tickets to fish the River
Skirfare; the Falcon Inn to be precise. From Arncliffe you can fish on 4
miles of the River Skirfare. It is advisable to telephone the Falcon Inn before
making the journey to Arncliffe as the landlord can be difficult to locate
through the day. No Sunday fishing.

Skirfare to the confluence with the River Wharfe. However, the cost of this

RIVER BAIN DAY TICKET FISHING
Bainbridge - is the only place that you can get day tickets for the River
Bain with it being such a short river - the shortest in England at about 2
miles.
Day Tickets:- are issued from the Rose and Crown in Bainbridge.
Cost:- £10. A map is issued your permit and although you cannot fish in
Semerwater itself, you can fish the feeder streams running into the lake.

RIVER COVER DAY TICKET FISHING
The Coverbridge Inn issues the only day tickets available for the River Cover. The Coverbridge Inn is located on the main Wensleydale road
between the villages of Middleham and East Witton and cannot be missed. Leave
your car in the hotel car park and fish your way upstream.

YORKSHIRE STILLWATER DAY TICKETS
Kilnsey Park - located on the B6160 about 10 miles
north of Skipton in the village of Kilnsey. Good fly fishing for rainbow trout in 2 small
lakes. There are many other attractions here for the whole family,
particularly children, including children's trout fishing, aquarium,
adventure playground, and restaurant.

Fewston Reservoir and Swinsty Reservoir - are both
very good rainbow trout fisheries with some wild brown trout present. Also
know as Washburn Valley Reservoirs. They
are run by Yorkshire Water and are located just off the A59 between
Harrogate and Skipton, one above the other. Fewston and Swinsty provide a
pleasurable day out fly fishing in superb surroundings. They are both about
150 acres in size. Bank fishing only. Tickets can be obtained in the
fishery office, on the south end of Fewston dam wall. The office is sign posted from the A59 near
Blubberhouses.

Leighton Reservoir - Situated in the hills and
moors above Masham, in Wensleydale (sign posted from Masham). At 105 acres this is quite a large lake
in an exposed position, but it has outstanding fly fishing for quality rainbow
trout
which run quite large. Bank fishing only.
Cost:- £16 for 4 fish or £9 evening ticket. Have the correct change
as an envelope system is in operation.

Coniston Hall - can be found at Coniston Cold on
the A65, a few miles north-west of Skipton. The lake is set in the
magnificent grounds of a large house and makes for a peaceful days fly
fishing. Both boat and bank fly fishing are available, but I would advise on
the first option to fully exploit the lakes full potential. This lake is
very well stocked and lures are banned. Therefore fly fishing is best done
with nymphs or dry flies which both work very well.

reception in Coniston Hall Hotel.

Stocks Reservoir - The worst thing
about Stocks is that it is in fact in Lancashire! Only Joking. It is a
superb large reservoir offering top quality fly fishing for top quality fish.
Stocks reservoir
has both boat and bank fly fishing. Stocks Reservoir can be found by
turning off the B6478 at Slaidburn (signposted) between Clitheroe and Long Preston.

Malham Tarn - is run by the National Trust who
offer boat only fly fishing for wild brown trout. Malham Tarn is a
fertile lake but it is also very exposed to the elements and I would only
consider fishing it in settled weather. Malham Tarn is located between
Settle-in-Ribblesdale and Wharfedale, near the village of Malham.
Cost:- A midweek day ticket costs £10
and the boat will cost you £10. At weekends and bank
holidays the prices rise to £12 and £16 respectively,
from Malham Tarn Field Centre.

Scar House Reservoir - is another wild brown trout
lake in an exposed position at the head of Nidderdale, but it does provide
excellent fly fishing in the right conditions. A day here is a solitary
affair and may not be to everyone's taste. The lake is controlled by Nidderdale Angling Club.
Cost:- £8 to
fish Scar House Reservoir only or £10 to fish both Scar House and the
River Nidd further down the Nidderdale valley.
